Like any PHEV powertrain, the Jeep 4xe system combines an internal combustion engine with two electric motors powered by a lithium-ion battery pack. The Grand Cherokee 4xe features a turbocharged 2.0-Liter Inline-4 cylinder engine, two electric motors, and a 400-volt battery pack. One of the electric motors replaces the alternator to provide a seamless engine stop/start when idling.
